The Only Tool a Dad Needs on Christmas

Christmas morning for dads is all about opening and putting together the toys that Santa brought the kiddies. Dads need an assortment of tools to get the toys out of there packages (which have to be made by Homeland Security).

As you can see from the picture, I have a tool that does it all. It has a screwdriver, knife and a claw like cutter that can bust through the metal clips, wires and whatever else Santa's Elves throws at us dads.

Thank GOODNESS for this tool!

The Social Networking Dilemma for Parents

Facebook logo1 jpg 542×301

Today the Globe has a story about the dilemma parents face with social networking.

[Social Networking] It’s become one of the most pressing questions for parents of children growing up in the digital age: When should they let their children join Facebook or should they be on the site at all? An estimated 7.5 million preteens - including 5 million under 10 - are part of the social network in violation of Facebook’s terms of service, according to Consumer Reports.

I have nephews and a niece who are under the acceptable age for signing up for Facebook, but are on Facebook. I see the interactions they have with their friends and family. Sometimes I find it strange. Sometimes I find it cool (mostly because I can keep up with how they are doing in school, athletic activities, etc.).

Blogger Pulls Tom Brady Baby Photos After Visit from State Police

Tb w kid

Seems as if Tom Brady doesn't like naked pictures of his kid floating around the web. Can't say I blame him whatsoever. Yes, Tom is a public future and all that, but his kid? Eh, that's a big grey area for me. Even if I was offered the money to post the picture to my blog, I'd say no. There's a line there I wouldn't cross. Guess others don't care about the line.

Happy Father's Day

Google Father's Day

Ah Father's Day, the one day of the year that we are celebrated for all the things we do for our kids and family. Well, I guess that's not totally true because every day is Father's Day in my house. There's nothing better than being a dad. I have two wonderful kids and a beautiful wife that keeps the family running. She's the CEO, while I play the CFO role.

I find it kind of funny that we celebrate dads (and moms for that matter) only one day out of the year. Parenting is not a cake walk. It's a lifetime of challenges. And while my kids are only 7 and 4, I'm only really starting my journey as a dad. As my mom says, "the bigger [kids] get, the bigger problems they have."

Sometimes It's Harder on the Parents

My oldest had to have two teeth pulled over the course of two weeks. The first time we went, I was a nervous wreck. I didn't know how well my kid would do with the shot, all the devices they use, etc.

Needless to say, she did fantastic with each one. The process is worse on the parents than it is on the kids. I didn't believe that to be true until I experienced it.

Today was the second extraction and I shot this with my iPad 2.

How Much Technology is Too Much for Your Kids?

My kids are hung up on Club Penguin. They love it. It's interactive. There are games to play. There are other people to interact with (to a certain extent).

My oldest is the one that plays it the most and she's seven. My youngest, of course, wants to do what her big sister is doing. As a result, I succumbed to pressure this morning and got her an account to the tune of 60 bucks for the year.
